Pin It Now!

Thursday 4 April 2013

I'll admit when it comes to student budgeting I'm not the best.. throw the word 'skincare' into the mix and I'm even worse! If someone tells me a product is good, I'll most likely want it. But to me skincare it pretty important-it doesn't matter how expensive or good make-up is if you don't have 'good base'. I do tend to spend quite a bit on skincare for a student, but I do have quite a small skincare collection of what I would call the 'essentials'.

To remove my daytime make up I usually use the infamous Bioderma H20 micellaire water-as this item isn't easy to get hold of in the UK I tend to order this off eBay, it usually costs around £15 including postage. I won't go into the reasons why this product is so great as many other bloggers have spoken about it, but a 500ml bottle of this product usually lasts me around six months, which personally I think is great value for money!

When it comes to cleansing I've only been doing it properly for a year, and it took me a while to find a cleanser I really liked, I'd tried ones from Liz Earle and Origins, but when I purchased the T-Zone Mayblossom cleansing gel from REN I decided it was the one for me. My skin tends to fall under the  'combination' category, so I like this cleanser as my skin feels refreshed after washing without feeling stripped like some cleansers can do. I usually order this off ASOS as I can get it with student discount, and a bottle of usually lasts just under two months.

Similar to trying to find the perfect cleanser, I've used many different toners but after watching a YouTube video from Meg I heard about the Rosewater Toning Spritz from Boots' Botanics range, this is the cheapest thing in my skincare collection, costing just £3.49 and I really like it. I've had this since around February time and after using it twice a day I'd say I still have just under half a bottle left, so great value for money!

My skin goes through bad phases, when I get a spot there seem to be quite a few to follow it. So I was thanking my lucky stars when I heard about La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo, costing just £13 this serum reduces the appearance of spots and also helps reduce sebum (the thing to cause spots). I was lucky enough to order this product from Boots when they had a 'two for £15' on all La Roche Posay products, so essentially I got one tube for £2! I use this product everyday after cleansing and toning and I've had my current tube since mid February and there is still quite a bit of product left.

As I just mentioned my skin can be bad sometimes, so for those pesky spots that won't disappear I tend to use the Super Spot Remover from Origins. This product it pretty pricey, for just 10ml of product it costs £13, however this does the trick, when applied before bed, it reduces the spot size so you're ready to rock in the morning. Also I've had this product since summer last year and I still have quite a bit of product left. Oh if only I didn't need a spot treatment..

Finally is something that has saved my skin over those wintery months! Its the Drink Up Intensive mask from Origins. Although my skin can be on the oily side, it's quite dehydrated so I tend to apply this mask once every one to two weeks to just help put so moisture back into the skin. This mask did cost £20 however would say its definitely worth it & because you only need a small bit at a time - this product will probably last you quite a while!

So there were my skincare essentials, be sure to keep an eye out for a make up essentials in the future!

Tuesday 2 April 2013

Last week was a good'un, I said goodbye to Nottingham for two weeks and made my way home to the little island in the middle of the Irish sea! Last week was a pretty chilled one, I indulged in a bit too much food, I watched a bit too much tv, I was reunited with not only my cat but also my family & friends, and suprise, suprise I went shopping..

My first week at home seemed to fly-by, but I thought I'd post a few snaps of what I got up to, and hope that this week I'll be a bit more pro-active.. xo Pin It Now!

Monday 1 April 2013

So.. it's Easter Bank Holiday therefore I decided to do something a bit different today. As opposed to letting all you lovely people in on the current music I'm enjoying I thought I would give you an insight into what can be found on my YouTube 'liked' pages instead...

First up is a video from the lovely Cara Delevingne, thanks to Topshop we get to see whats in this beaut's current handbag, warning to those who are fans of Ms. Delevingne-this does nothing but make the obsession worse!

Next is a spring inspired video from the lovely gemsmaquillage, this video is filled with inspiration for how to welcome spring into your home. If you guys are anything like me-after watching this, you'll be wanting to pop to the shops right now to buy a fresh bunch of flowers and some new spring inspired candles!

Finally is this  video from meganisobel, lets face it-we aren't all make-up artists so any help in how to achieve the perfect 'wing' gets a definite applause from me. For those more adventurous than myself who's liquid eyeliner kinda gal,  this video shows you how to achieve the perfect flick with four different types of eyeliner. If I don't post something new for a while, you may find me practicing in my bathroom..

I hope you guys are having a good Easter weekend and that this change in post was something a bit refreshing for spring time.. xo  Pin It Now!

Tuesday 26 March 2013

Cue the far too frequent apology for missing a post (or two).. but really last week was super busy, amidst the heavy work load, I was also consuming too much alcohol and trying to pack to come home for Easter.. hopefully things will be back to normal next week!

So today I headed to town with my mum for a little bit of shopping and I managed to pick up a few great bits! First is a dress I had my eye on for while (who knew I would ever say that?!), its from River Island and costs £20. I thought it would be quite nice for the summer paired up with some sandals or converse, and in the winter I would layer up with tights and cardigan etc..

Then we went to Accessorize and I instantly fell in love with the colour of this necklace. Thanks to some leftover Christmas voucher money I managed to get this necklace for half the price. I think this will be great when the weather starts to brighten up!

Finally is some shower-gel from Korres. I heard essiebutton talk about these a while back and as a fan of Korres I really wanted to try it, but as a student I couldn't justify spending £8, so when I saw this for just £4 I knew I had to pick up a bottle!

Just a few little bits this haul, but I'm super excited to start using them, when the sun comes out that is... Pin It Now!

Monday 18 March 2013

Last week I wrote about how busy I was, and this weeks musicmonday shows it. This week I've been listening to and discovering a lot of chilled music. I first heard this Ryan Hemsworth remix of Rhye's song 'Open' on Annie Mac's show, since then I may have been pressing the repeat button a little too often!

Next up is Josh Record's 'For Your Love' I first heard this song in a Sam Pepper video (which you should take time out to watch), at the time I didn't think of much of the song, but when I heard it again the other night on the radio, I found myself searching Youtube to hear it again. His voice reminds me ever so slightly of Bon Iver so if you are a fan of them check it out.

I first discovered James Blake back when I was in sixth form, I would occassionally listen to his music, but I never thought much of it- that is until the other day when I heard Retrograde. Although James' music might not suit everyone's tastes, this song is a definite yes for me!

Finally is Into The Wild by Lewis Watson, just like Gabrielle Aplin and the Biebs (yes I just said 'biebs'), Lewis started out on Youtube and since then has released a few EP's. After getting to the top of the iTunes charts on several occasions, he got discovered by Warner Bros. Records. and shortly after signed a contract with them. Into The Wild is the first release of his new EP, and if this song is anything to go by, I can't wait to hear the other three songs... Pin It Now!

Thursday 14 March 2013

This weeks been a busy one and it's only Thursday! The week began with an early start only to discover there was a blizzard happening outside my window-so I ditched the idea of lectures in favour for staying in the warmth until a little later that day... After university I met up in the city with my friend and we went for a cheeky Starbucks (sticky ginger muffin & a vanilla latte, for those wondering).

Tuesday I was in university twelve til six, then had a house viewing shortly after, may I just add house hunting as a student is hard! My evening was a chilled one, I caught up with some TV then giggled maybe a bit too much at Geordie Shore, shortly after I jumped into bed fell asleep (exciting huh!).

Yesterday morning I was greeted with Blog Inc landing on my doorstep (one to check off the wishlist!), then I headed back to uni to edit an some footage for one of my assignments. When I got home I was delighted to be presented with a limited edition bottle of Absolut vodka-which hopefully I shall be able to open tomorrow.. it's been a long week! That evening, I did my usual Wednesday routine of face masks, pretty little liars and catching up on YouTube videos (pictured above is whatihearttoday's latest video).

Today I've got to go to uni once again to meet with a group about a presentation, and edit some footage. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be going out, but hopefully at some point I'll get chance to read the new edition of Company magazine and maybe catch up on a bit more TV...

Friday's my day off so hopefully it will be a chilled one, and who knows I might pop open the Absolut and venture out to let my hair down!

Monday 11 March 2013

First up this week, Alunageorge Attracting Flies. I've been a fan of these two since I first heard You Know You Like It-since then they have released some great tracks and this new one doesn't disappoint. I'm looking forward to hearing more from them in the future.

I first heard Passenger when he did a collaboration with Ed Sheeran, Stu Larsan and a few other people, I remember listening to the song on repeat for weeks admiring all of their voices, so when I saw Ed and Him had released a cover of No Diggity I HAD to listen to it.

There isn't much for me to say about Gabrielle Aplin except for the for the fact I love her. The new jazzed up version of Panic Cord was released online yesterday so I had to include it in today's post. I'm hoping 2013 is going to be a good one for this girl!

Finally, is Rudimental's new song featuring Ella Eyre. These guys really can do no wrong! I will literally be Waiting All Night to hear this when I'm out of a night! Pin It Now!

Thursday 7 March 2013

So first things first, apologies for the picture; I'm currently taking blog photos using my iPhone, hence the quality not being fantastic and it's a miserable day so the lighting is poor too! But, I really wanted to post something today so I thought I'd show you guys a few little bits I got whilst in town today.

First up is the neon necklace from Topshop. I spotted this on the website last week and instantly fell in love, whilst placing an order online yesterday I went to add it to my bag, but it was out of stock! So in a mad dash for this necklace to be in my possession I went to my local Topshop and luckily they still had it in stock! I'm looking forward to wearing this to brighten up my outfits and keeping up with the neon trend without going all out!

Next, peel off nail varnish! I must admit I'm not completely sold on this-I read some reviews online before purchasing and one person said it peeled off too easily, but the other said it was hard to remove! When I saw it in-store today I decided to bite the bullet and go for it, for those of you wondering the b-e-a-u-t-iful colour is  'on the blink'.

Finally is the Botanics Facial Brush, I first saw this in one of Zoella's videos/hauls and have been trying to hunt it down ever since. Being a poor student and all I doubt I'll be investing in the Clarisonic anytime soon-so I thought at just £6 this would be quite nice to try out! Anything to do with skincare and I'm there!

Speak to you guys soon!

Monday 4 March 2013

So here is my first music Monday post, since I've been at uni I've not only got into beauty but also different genres of music. The once hated (by me) house and dance music has now become some of my favourite music. So I thought it would be cool to share what I love each week with the internet.

First up is Tom Odell-Hold Me, a week or so late to the London Fashion Week hype, I was watching the Burberry A/W13 catwalk, and the closing song was this beaut from Tom. I must admit I was admiring Ms Delevingne throughout the video until Tom (and his choir?) started singing and instantly I fell in love. After him wining The Critics Choice award at the BRITS I think big things are in store for him this year, and I look forward to seeing his success!

Now I've had a girl crush on Jessie Ware for sometime but when I saw she had done a song with Sampha, I perhaps got a little bit too excited? 'Valentine' is perfect, and I haven't stopped listening to for about two weeks! I just wish it was longer!

Green Garden by Laura Mvula, is super catchy and just like Tom Odell, I think this year is gonna be a good one for Laura!

Finally and maybe my favourite this week, is the Snakehips remix of Bondax's song Gold. I don't know how I found this song but all I know is I'm glad I did. I imagine listening to it on a beautiful summers day, chilling out with friends and a few Corona's. If only my fifteen year old (slightly indie self) could see my music taste now!
