Thursday 4 April 2013

I'll admit when it comes to student budgeting I'm not the best.. throw the word 'skincare' into the mix and I'm even worse! If someone tells me a product is good, I'll most likely want it. But to me skincare it pretty important-it doesn't matter how expensive or good make-up is if you don't have 'good base'. I do tend to spend quite a bit on skincare for a student, but I do have quite a small skincare collection of what I would call the 'essentials'.

To remove my daytime make up I usually use the infamous Bioderma H20 micellaire water-as this item isn't easy to get hold of in the UK I tend to order this off eBay, it usually costs around £15 including postage. I won't go into the reasons why this product is so great as many other bloggers have spoken about it, but a 500ml bottle of this product usually lasts me around six months, which personally I think is great value for money!

When it comes to cleansing I've only been doing it properly for a year, and it took me a while to find a cleanser I really liked, I'd tried ones from Liz Earle and Origins, but when I purchased the T-Zone Mayblossom cleansing gel from REN I decided it was the one for me. My skin tends to fall under the  'combination' category, so I like this cleanser as my skin feels refreshed after washing without feeling stripped like some cleansers can do. I usually order this off ASOS as I can get it with student discount, and a bottle of usually lasts just under two months.

Similar to trying to find the perfect cleanser, I've used many different toners but after watching a YouTube video from Meg I heard about the Rosewater Toning Spritz from Boots' Botanics range, this is the cheapest thing in my skincare collection, costing just £3.49 and I really like it. I've had this since around February time and after using it twice a day I'd say I still have just under half a bottle left, so great value for money!

My skin goes through bad phases, when I get a spot there seem to be quite a few to follow it. So I was thanking my lucky stars when I heard about La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo, costing just £13 this serum reduces the appearance of spots and also helps reduce sebum (the thing to cause spots). I was lucky enough to order this product from Boots when they had a 'two for £15' on all La Roche Posay products, so essentially I got one tube for £2! I use this product everyday after cleansing and toning and I've had my current tube since mid February and there is still quite a bit of product left.

As I just mentioned my skin can be bad sometimes, so for those pesky spots that won't disappear I tend to use the Super Spot Remover from Origins. This product it pretty pricey, for just 10ml of product it costs £13, however this does the trick, when applied before bed, it reduces the spot size so you're ready to rock in the morning. Also I've had this product since summer last year and I still have quite a bit of product left. Oh if only I didn't need a spot treatment..

Finally is something that has saved my skin over those wintery months! Its the Drink Up Intensive mask from Origins. Although my skin can be on the oily side, it's quite dehydrated so I tend to apply this mask once every one to two weeks to just help put so moisture back into the skin. This mask did cost £20 however would say its definitely worth it & because you only need a small bit at a time - this product will probably last you quite a while!

So there were my skincare essentials, be sure to keep an eye out for a make up essentials in the future!

Tuesday 2 April 2013

Last week was a good'un, I said goodbye to Nottingham for two weeks and made my way home to the little island in the middle of the Irish sea! Last week was a pretty chilled one, I indulged in a bit too much food, I watched a bit too much tv, I was reunited with not only my cat but also my family & friends, and suprise, suprise I went shopping..

My first week at home seemed to fly-by, but I thought I'd post a few snaps of what I got up to, and hope that this week I'll be a bit more pro-active.. xo Pin It Now!

Monday 1 April 2013

So.. it's Easter Bank Holiday therefore I decided to do something a bit different today. As opposed to letting all you lovely people in on the current music I'm enjoying I thought I would give you an insight into what can be found on my YouTube 'liked' pages instead...

First up is a video from the lovely Cara Delevingne, thanks to Topshop we get to see whats in this beaut's current handbag, warning to those who are fans of Ms. Delevingne-this does nothing but make the obsession worse!

Next is a spring inspired video from the lovely gemsmaquillage, this video is filled with inspiration for how to welcome spring into your home. If you guys are anything like me-after watching this, you'll be wanting to pop to the shops right now to buy a fresh bunch of flowers and some new spring inspired candles!

Finally is this  video from meganisobel, lets face it-we aren't all make-up artists so any help in how to achieve the perfect 'wing' gets a definite applause from me. For those more adventurous than myself who's liquid eyeliner kinda gal,  this video shows you how to achieve the perfect flick with four different types of eyeliner. If I don't post something new for a while, you may find me practicing in my bathroom..

I hope you guys are having a good Easter weekend and that this change in post was something a bit refreshing for spring time.. xo  Pin It Now!

Tuesday 26 March 2013

Cue the far too frequent apology for missing a post (or two).. but really last week was super busy, amidst the heavy work load, I was also consuming too much alcohol and trying to pack to come home for Easter.. hopefully things will be back to normal next week!

So today I headed to town with my mum for a little bit of shopping and I managed to pick up a few great bits! First is a dress I had my eye on for while (who knew I would ever say that?!), its from River Island and costs £20. I thought it would be quite nice for the summer paired up with some sandals or converse, and in the winter I would layer up with tights and cardigan etc..

Then we went to Accessorize and I instantly fell in love with the colour of this necklace. Thanks to some leftover Christmas voucher money I managed to get this necklace for half the price. I think this will be great when the weather starts to brighten up!

Finally is some shower-gel from Korres. I heard essiebutton talk about these a while back and as a fan of Korres I really wanted to try it, but as a student I couldn't justify spending £8, so when I saw this for just £4 I knew I had to pick up a bottle!

Just a few little bits this haul, but I'm super excited to start using them, when the sun comes out that is... Pin It Now!

Monday 18 March 2013

Last week I wrote about how busy I was, and this weeks musicmonday shows it. This week I've been listening to and discovering a lot of chilled music. I first heard this Ryan Hemsworth remix of Rhye's song 'Open' on Annie Mac's show, since then I may have been pressing the repeat button a little too often!

Next up is Josh Record's 'For Your Love' I first heard this song in a Sam Pepper video (which you should take time out to watch), at the time I didn't think of much of the song, but when I heard it again the other night on the radio, I found myself searching Youtube to hear it again. His voice reminds me ever so slightly of Bon Iver so if you are a fan of them check it out.

I first discovered James Blake back when I was in sixth form, I would occassionally listen to his music, but I never thought much of it- that is until the other day when I heard Retrograde. Although James' music might not suit everyone's tastes, this song is a definite yes for me!

Finally is Into The Wild by Lewis Watson, just like Gabrielle Aplin and the Biebs (yes I just said 'biebs'), Lewis started out on Youtube and since then has released a few EP's. After getting to the top of the iTunes charts on several occasions, he got discovered by Warner Bros. Records. and shortly after signed a contract with them. Into The Wild is the first release of his new EP, and if this song is anything to go by, I can't wait to hear the other three songs... Pin It Now!
